WHAT IS GUM DISEASE?

While periodontal disease is caused by bacteria, it is not strictly “caught” in the same ways that colds and flu are caught. There are hundreds of bacteria that live in your mouth. Under normal health circumstances, they are kept in balance. When a person is susceptible to gum disease, these bacteria get out of balance and cause the damage known as “pyorrhea” or periodontal disease. Genetics, systemic disease, and sometimes infrequent dental care influence the course of the disease.

With today’s technology, there is a genetic test that can tell you from a drop of blood whether you have a familial tendency toward periodontal disease. If a parent has lost teeth from gum disease, their children should consider the benefits of the new genetic testing procedure. This will enable treatment decisions to be made much earlier for a better lifetime dental outcome.

WHAT IS TOOTH DECAY?

Plaque is known to develop on the teeth and cause tooth decay. When we eat food, and it is left on the teeth, plaque then starts to form and combines with the bacteria that live in the mouth. This combination produces acids that damage the tooth enamel, causing tooth decay.

WHY DO TEETH NEED FLUORIDE?

Fluoride, often called nature’s cavity fighter, helps safely prevent tooth decay.

Teeth Whitening

WILL I HAVE TO WEAR A MOUTH TRAY?

REMBRANDT® Chairside Whitening does not require the use of a mouth tray. This is a one-visit procedure that your dentist will perform. You will be given a mouth tray and REMBRANDT® brilliance toothpaste for at-home touch-ups to use as you need.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE PROCEDURE?

It is always performed by a dental professional, so you can be assured that the procedure is safe. We will use the REMBRANDT® Chairside Whitening Gel to achieve whitening up to 12 shades.

IS THIS WHITENING PROCEDURE SAFE?

Absolutely! When used under the supervision of your dental professional, the procedure is safe and will not harm teeth or gums.

WHAT IS REMBRANDT® CHAIRSIDE WHITENING GEL?

REMBRANDT® Chairside Whitening Gel is a hydrogen peroxide formula. When activated by the REMBRANDT® light, we can whiten your teeth by up to 12 shades in one hour.

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR TEETH WHITENING?

People with most types of discoloration can achieve whiter teeth through REMBRANDT® Whitening Systems. The type of stain you have will affect how much whitening you will experience. Ask your dentist how much brighter your teeth can be.

WHAT CAUSES TOOTH DISCOLORATION?

Discoloration may be the result of genetics, medication, poor oral hygiene, aging, smoking, certain foods and beverages, or a combination of these factors.
